Fallen Brother
It is with sadness & grief that I write this posting. The best guitarist that I ever had the pleasure of knowing as a friend and share the stage with as part of two bands (Voodoo Caravan & Ocho Diablo) crossed to the next plane of existence. On Mon. Nov. 12, 2007 Luis Ponce died.
He joined us when we were about to lose our original l. gtr. David E. in Voodoo Caravan. When we auditioned him, he amazed me with his technical ability to play virtually anything. Classical (Mozart, Bach, etc...), Jazz, Country, Rock, Metal, Reggae, Blues you name he could play it. Playing in the Austin club scene often, we became more than just band-mates, we became brothers. For Darrin & I the news was a shock and very hard to comprehend. I was hoping that soon we (Darrin, Luis, & myself) would be able to record and enjoy that same brotherhood we had just like in the past. Unfortunately this has slipped through our fingers.... My performance on Fri. Nov. 23rd will be dedicated to the memory of my fallen brother and close friend Luis Ponce. I have altered the track list to include Luis and his gtr playing in each trax. The trax that you are listening to is Street Side Serenade (written by Darrin) which includes Luis on lead guitar. This would be his last recording. If you knew him or came out to see him in any band (Voodoo Caravan, Ocho Diablo, Icons Of Industry, or at any jams) please take a moment and remember him. Also we would ask that you say a prayer for his wife and daughter as they struggle thru their loss. Thank you and blessed be.
