* (asterick, the word certainly works better than the symbol on the net) was founded by Steve Harriman, Bruce Patterson, and Wilson Zorn in Boston way back in 1984. Bruce left thereafter (Wilson and Bruce have done a couple recordings, the legendary We Coulda Been Somebody stff). Joined very briefly by someone known only as Claud (no e) and for a longer period by Heidi Patterson (no relation to Bruce), while in Boston. * for a long while was a solo project with Wilson Zorn in Portland doing the music. Recently, in 1996, Jordan Weiss has joined. You'll notice the influences aren't explicated anywhere as just a few bands; ranges from Throbbing Gristle to Depeche Mode to the Sex Pistols to the Psychedelic Furs to Mercury Rev to Atari Teenage Riot to Kraftwerk and beyond. Admittedly, though, it's certainly a rock and pop based band, not much overt influence from the roots of rock. In any case, asterick is an avant-pop band and concentrates on real music, which is to say music that is both accessible enough to listen to and evocative - across a range of emotions.
