It reminds me of the 70's guitar work by the band Heart, but with an enormous difference in depth..WOW! It is like the guitar is opened up and enters into a harp like multi-de-imensional-etheric bliss!lol. Interesting the math and all, does your brain ever hurt? Just kidding. Nice to hear innovation at work! Good use of minor and major tones.I enjoyed it anyway!

that is what I would like to call it in Turkish cause it is very much apart from being an ordinary one, even, in its own industry. what I hear right now can be nothing but a beautiful composition of music that is worked on very brilliantly. well done.

Never heard anything like it. Beautiful, original, dexterous, and frighteningly good. I like Just Intonation and I never knew it! And the Bach piece hurt my fingers just to listen to. Do you have any recordings available for purchase? Keep up the innovative work Dante

Dante,
I was considering the use of a 2/7 comma meantone for an instrument I'm in the process of designing, but now after visiting your site I'm beginning to rethink things.
I've understood the basic phisics of "just intonation" for years and have thorougly enjoyed it's use through the Carnatic tradition with drone ect, Mentally though I can't seem to break free from the bonds of temperment and common practice logic.
Anyway, would you have any advice for using ji in a contrapuntal system. I love the septimal ratios but have trouble using them effectively.

Hi Kevin-
I dont think there is any better or worse for any tuning, although it depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to use western functional harmony including modulation, then JI is very limited, and probably some kind of temperament would be better. If you like pure intervals usually heard against a constant tonic, like the Indian tradition you mention, then JI can be a great way to go. The funny thing is, if you want the best all-around tuning that can do everything equally well (and equally badly), then regular old equal temperament is probably the best. I like JI becuase it is the most different from the equal temperament guitar that we all know and love. If you dont try to make it do things it cant do (like extensive modulation) and just let it be itself, it sounds amazing.
good luck

Hi Eric-
Thanks for your words of encouragement. I am just (pun intended) finishing another guitar in 12 tone just intonation, in standard guitar tuning. This is going to be very interesting as I can play pieces by Bach, etc. in just intonation. I will be posting some new mp3s to my page within a few weeks.

Hi-
No I was just experimenting with different guitars and vihuela to compare sounds. Actually that flamenco guitar is in the middle of being converted into a microtonal guitar with a different set up than the 21-tone one that can be heard on a few tracks here.

Hi Karen-
glad you like the piece. There is no written score of this piece- it was composed by improvisation. Besides, it is for 21 tone just intonation guitar that I designed, so unless you had the same kind of guitar, you couldn't play it anyway. :-)
