This year's Kaua'i Music Festival...

...aka 'BMI songwriters seminar' was amazing/intense/inspiring/exhausting/uplifting and as full of surprises as ever! - plus, this year, one of the (talented, ueber-successful!) Mainland panelists told me he thinks i have a hit song for a Country star in my repertoire...which he's very kindly offered to help me to get to her (hopefully happily receptive!) ears - yay hooray!

(...is this what i get for avidly watching this season's/NBC's 'Nashville Star'? - even tho' i neither understand nor fully appreciate the genre of Country music?! But - hey, why not open up and expand my horizons/rise to the challenge of something different?...i mean, there's no hard 'n fast rule that insists that i include copious references in the lyrics to blondes/bars/whiskey and pick-up trucks...is there?)

;)

What i've been interested in ever since we made the pilot for 'Big in Small Places - USA' (www.youtube.com/watch?v=STZqCAeM8Zw) is the reality that Country is a genre routinely reaching & listened to by millions across the Mainland AND here in Hawai'i...which IS slowly changing in character & flavour (much to the 'Oldtimer/Classicists' dismay LOL!!); i've always loved (most) Folk music, which is what Country evolved from originally anyway...so what interests me is how this much-listened to genre is evolving, and what it might evolve into; forerunner in the 'Hopeful, Uplifting & Progressive' department is the song 'Some People Change' (penned by Jason Sellers, sung by Montgomery Gentry) - i really think this expresses a breakthrough sentiment harbinging possible Signs of Things To Come...'The Times, they are a changin'' - & even Country music isn't exempt from that!
