This year's Kaua'i Music Festival...
...aka 'BMI songwriters seminar' was amazing/intense/inspiring/exhausting/uplifting and as full of surprises as ever! - plus, this year, one of the (talented, ueber-successful!) Mainland panelists told me he thinks i have a hit song for a Country star in my repertoire...which he's very kindly offered to help me to get to her (hopefully happily receptive!) ears - yay hooray!
(...is this what i get for avidly watching this season's/NBC's 'Nashville Star'? - even tho' i neither understand nor fully appreciate the genre of Country music?! But - hey, why not open up and expand my horizons/rise to the challenge of something different?...i mean, there's no hard 'n fast rule that insists that i include copious references in the lyrics to blondes/bars/whiskey and pick-up trucks...is there?)
;)
What i've been interested in ever since we made the pilot for 'Big in Small Places - USA' (www.youtube.com/watch?v=STZqCAeM8Zw) is the reality that Country is a genre routinely reaching & listened to by millions across the Mainland AND here in Hawai'i...which IS slowly changing in character & flavour (much to the 'Oldtimer/Classicists' dismay LOL!!); i've always loved (most) Folk music, which is what Country evolved from originally anyway...so what interests me is how this much-listened to genre is evolving, and what it might evolve into; forerunner in the 'Hopeful, Uplifting & Progressive' department is the song 'Some People Change' (penned by Jason Sellers, sung by Montgomery Gentry) - i really think this expresses a breakthrough sentiment harbinging possible Signs of Things To Come...'The Times, they are a changin'' - & even Country music isn't exempt from that!

Yet MORE good stuff brewin'....!!
Just started development on another brand-new project - a TV pilot set on the island; am loving the way in which this 'paradigm-shift-stuff' is showing up in my life/work without any especial 'effort' from me...i think I'm becoming a conduit for facilitating things which have been floatin' around in the ether for a while - it's soooo exciting!! 'Just call me 'catalyst'...?!

THIS YEAR'S BMI SONGWRITERS' SEMINAR (aka Kaua'i Music Festival) FINALLY HIT THE MARK!!
EVERYONE i spoke to who was part of it feels the same way - KUDOS to Jerry (www.newboomermusic), President of KMF, for captaining this enterprise (!), and our eternal thanks to Rich McSheehy (now residing on another island - Ireland!) for having founded it 'for us'. Personally, as well as having tons o' fun, I met some super songwriters - as well as renewing contact with many folk, from all aspects of the so-called Music Industry, whom I already know.

Another theme song movie placement - !
Happy to report that my song 'Immortally Yours' (third version!) was cut by Antonia Bennett (yes - daughter of Tony!) and features as the theme song for the soon-to-be-released vampire movie originally titled 'Immortally Yours' starring Katherine Hawkes, Daniel Goddard and Matthias Hues, now retitled "Kiss of the Vampire" by the distributor, currently in Cannes.
