CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE - Sleazegrinder You may or may not have read my Sleaze column from a month or so ago wherein I recommended the simple, sinister pleasures of NYC’s Wicked Little Dolls, a gleefully creepy, female-fronted, sugar-frosted sleaze-punk band. Turns out that WLD is only one finger on the Luci fist o’ doom. Who is Luci? I don’t think even he can answer that directly, but what I can tell you is that besides playing guitar in the Dolls, he was a founding member of Norwegian black metal freaks Ancient, and he also runs Carny Goat Records. Oh, and he used to go under the pseudonym Jesus Christ. Unless that’s actually his real name. That’s enough to keep any ghoul busy, but the ever-prolific Luci just released an utterly bitchin’ solo record under the typically murderous moniker Horroble. As I mentioned in my column, Wicked Little Dolls provide many screechy shock’n’roll thrills, including a truly possessed vocal performance from the cleverly named Scareifina. Horroble is not a huge leap from that aesthetic, substituting Scarey’s girl-yelp with Luci’s druggy vampire drawl and digging deep into his endless well of punky flash metal riffs to construct an awesome, Halloween-y coffin cruiser of a record. Imagine Ace Frehley fronting the Murderdolls. Imagine cartoon bats and half-naked zombie chicks. Imagine big, dumb pop-metal thrills that turn into murderous punk n’roll werewolf anthems after midnight. That’s what you’ll find on Horrorble’s debut, Death of Ghost. If you survive it.
Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles- knucletracks comp. Cross Murderdolls and Wednesday 13 with Kiss and big molten power chord production, and you get close to the walking zombie eater that is Horroble, brainchild of Ancient guitarist Dave, known here as Luci. Add a little T. Rex and Poison in there, and you’ve got a glam at the cemetery ghoulish good time.
