PILES

Biography

One cannot write of Piles without mentioning the history of Trever Smith and Christopher Hislop.  The two of them meet in high school and grew musically together.  Trever had a more formal training in trumpet and snare, but was also learning the bass, guitar and drums when Chris was learning guitar.  The two bonded over Nirvana bootlegs and rare tshirts and started making tapes inspired by Sebadoh and Sonic Youth and Slint.  Apparently, they never made it past the "S" section in the record store at this point.

The two played the Battle of the Bands, coffee houses, and backyards as "The Pimento Grooove" (the extra "o" is for "oh yeah") before deciding to get serious under a shorter more "punchy" moniker.  Thus, the birth of Piles.

Deciding to focus on odd meter, extreme dynamics and loudness, Chris and Trever and a Line 6 DL4 started writing "songs" and began performing in early 2004.  Building a local reputation for looking good with equipment failure and on-stage banter that always turned vindictive and malicous (the way best friends do) the public decided that if Piles was to be taken seriously, they needed to have full time roadie Mike D become a part time member with limited liability.  That's when shit got real.  And it has been ever since.

Today, you will find Piles working separately and collaborating over the phone and emails for the random show every few months until the band victoriously reunites.  They currently have two self released EPs in limited quantities, with more releases coming on Big Spoon Records. Stay tuned and feel privelidged to know what you know, have what you have and seen what you've seen.  You will be waving to the bandwagon soon, promise.
