We may be 1,200 miles apart...
...but we're still trying.
This site is making its way up the zebox ladder, as we constantly try to de-throne Project X for the No. 1 Boston band on here, but more importantly, i am trying to learn some sweet ass HTML so that i can make this bitch gleam!
In the meantime, in between time, Chris has spent more time on airplanes than most of us have in cars or on the train since he moved to chi-town and has been balls deep in being the balls for A. Lange & Söhne.
Otherwie, i just plan on reliving some of the older, finer (and more akward moments) of PILES, via audio, video and images.
Enjoy.
(we'll prob play sooner than you want us too)

So, okay....
OUR RECORD IS CURRENTLY BEING MASTERED
By Lord Andrew Clare of Brighton, E. Sussex U.K. We haven't paid him yet, but we will, promise. The EP will be called "the Pimento Grooove" and will be released on Big Spoon Records. You might actually be able to buy it on the interweb! It features 5 songs and runs just over 20 minutes... don't worry you'll get more music eventually.
So the next release that we do will be a re-release of our first EP "Six Sick Songs" with different artwork, in a jewel case with six remixes done by such illustrious electronic music stars as Ender, ASCDI, Boo Radley, I Am Never Going To Die, Bizzie Rhythm, and Austin Hall! Look for that after we make enough money to put it out. We've got the tracks. Just no money. Sorry dudez.
Come see us on June 11th at Great Scott. It might be the last time you see us until the record release. If we make a lot of money that night, it might be sooner than later!
Later!

A Change of Person-L
i realize that no one looks at this page ever, so that is why i have decided to share this information via this medium.
recently, PILES has undergone a personel (sp?) change and we are back to just chris and trever.
im not saying open auditions, im just saying, remember the PILES that you didnt like so much before mike d started playing full time with us? well, prepare for that shit unless something else happens.
until then, look forward to hearing more expirimental bullshit on the radio from chris and trever (and maybe jordan again) and for the inevitable release of "the Pimento Grooove" and the Forth-coming Japanese release of Six Sick Songs (featuring remixes of all six-sick-songs).
we dont give up that easy, and maybe thats lucky for you...probably.
cazart.

Its (again) been a while...
So, i notice that is been for-fucking-ever since anyones written on or even gived a shit about this site, so i have kind of decided to make some attempt to resurrect it (again). I have put up a bunch of songs, including our Halloween performance, a cd ripped right from the sound board at the Middle East, as well as some songs you know and some versions you dont. The new and improved focus of PILES these days is to finish the 7 songs we recorded with Kevin Mica sometime with in a year of it begining (January this year...yeah...we know) and focus on our conceptual fetus, dubbed "Intelligent Design" and its development. other than that, we are scheduled to play in 6 days from when i write this and maybe one more before the year is up, but we are mostly just focusing on reconnecting and making it thru the end of the year in one (3) piece. hope to see more news and write on our fucking message bored, innit?
love,

07-05-06 updating
so we've all made it safely home (as far as i know) from last nights 21+ show at O'Briens. The energy was high as some touring bands such as catacombs of rome and jackalope from wisconsin brought the rock. we the band piles played to redeem our last shows mishap, proving once again that piles will see another day.
so on that note i'd like to encourage you to go to zebox.com homepage and note that piles is currently the featured artist. that's pretty kick ass.
and stop leaving comments about how lame our site is.. it's counter productive.

Holla.
Our first headline this evening is that Piles has now played on the radio. The songs from the session can be found on the Music page. We went to Tufts University on Wenesday January 18th around 9pm or so and had a little bit of technical difficulty on both halves for a little bit, but ended up playing around 10:50pm.
It was a lot of fun, so we're doing again at WUML at UMass Lowell on what would have been Kurt Cobain's 39th birthday. I wonder what he would look like...
In other news, we are mixing Farhad's recordings on Wednesday. Then recording at Small Church in Allston on Saturday and Sunday with Kevin Micka.
Check us out.

An Update
We're over the halfway point for our residency at the Midway and we appreciate all of the bands and people that have been out with us.
Playing every week and organising all of the evenings is a real slap in the face about this whole music business. You can imagine.
All of the tracks are recorded with Farhad and we just need to mix them. No word yet as to how and when we will release them, but there is talks of doing a full length with more tracks to be added this winter. We just need to record them... No sense in releasing another EP soon after this with what will then be old songs, when we can barely afford to put out any record at all. All in one swoop is the possibly the way. Or not.
Ta for now.

An Update
So, our extremely photogenic Bass Pile, Mike Doherty, was requesting that we put up the pictures from our show at the Middle East on September 12th with Pinnochio Syndrome. Here they are.
The show was a rather bittersweet one. On one hand, it was our third time playing the Middle East within 9 months (an average of once per three months,) on the other hand, the soundguy that did an awful job the last time that we played there, did a less awful job than before, but still bad and when we recieved the CD copy of the set that we just played, not only was it one track that was 27 someodd minutes long, but they cut off the first two minutes of Divided Binomials!
Anyway, Our NEST show was a lot of fun, look for pictures soon. Next is SOM on Oct 15th, the Halloween show as SPINAL TAP. Both at the best room in Boston, Great Scott.
Farhad's recordings are on their way. He will be returning from England today and we will do our overdubs in the coming weeks. Then mastered, then to vinyl, then to your living room. Rock.

A news update!
So, today is Saturday June 11th and I'm extremely bored in work. It's starting to get hot and no one seems to want to do anything.
But not those Piles. We're gonna be setting up some microphones in our practice space (Cashman Studio) with Farhad Ebrahimi from Night Rally tonight after I get outta this dump. The plan is to record 5 songs tomorrow morning into the afternoon. Which ones? Who cares! They'll sound really good and there'll be five of them for you to listen to. In the music biz, that's called and extended-player or and EP.
The plan after that is to send them to be mastered and get some out to the local radio stations just in time for those new fresh students to fully absorb in the fall. We'd love to try to send something out to TT's and stuff. I think that we might just take two of these songs and release them on a 7 that we'll put out or something.
The next step is to record with the illustious Kevin Micka in July at the Small Church in Allston. We'll do a few more songs than with Farhad cuz it will be a couple of days in a studio and at Kevin's house where he has already made some great recordings.
Then hopefully we'll have a long-player or an LP done by the early fall and maybe try to book a tour.
But then again... this is Piles we're talking about. You'll be lucky if we play another show, d-bags.

By The Way
Ok, so you may have heard through the grapevine that Piles is having an anneversary show at the caberet theater (emmerson college). Well just to officially inform the select group/general public that this rumor is infact true. Some of the details are a bit hazy, but here's the rundown. show is Feb. 11th...this Friday. show starts either 8 or 9pm, so get there at 8. First band on is a must see! They're called MALEblood, and it's their first gig. they will tear shit up, so don't be late. after them are 2 other bands, and then Piles closes the night out leaving you with catchy riffs to hum yourself to sleep to. not sure about cover charge...if there is one, or how much it is..99% sure it's all ages.
Hey, I'm just picking up the slack by letting y'all know about this show, you want more details..call chris or trever.

Middle East review
So what a mindfuck last night, huh? the Middle East. if you ask me, last night's performance was a classic piles set. All of the qualities that make us the screwed up band we are carried us through one more gig. Filled with laughs even we didn't inspire, piles was on point once again. But i'll be honest, i was scared shitless. the ten minutes before we went on stage i'm wondering where the hell my band is.
Local on the Eights..what an opener.
20 Minute Mile..Boyakasha.
Submariner..wait, was that a Blue Oyster Cult riff?
So it was somewhere around this point in the show that some dude comes up and asks me to make an announcement that a cell phone was found in the dudes bathroom. i turn to Trever and inform him his cell phone has been recovered..he then reaches for his cell phone and realizes he's lost it. Poor guys been drumming with a bandaged knee victim of 2nd degree burns..i dunno, i guess it's a long story.
Only Monkeys..so nasty.
Do Me..and..and..
Saur Kraut. DONE.
Like carpenter ants, Piles came, they saw, they brought the rock, packed up and moved out. Like a machine. Irregardless, we made our point. Piles played the Middle East.
The rest of a night was a blur.. don't really remember much but the midnight ride back to the Pothole for a tarp. Oh yeah, and having to move all those amps and shit...good times and sore muscles.
Well, one more gig under our belt. Thanks to all who came out to see us. it was a real good time.

A review of the Middle East stage left.
So the Middle East has come and gone. It seems so surreal that I think we're officially jaded from this point on. It's kinda weird to have this goal in your mind that seemed so long term so long ago, but is just a mile marker along the way. We're not gonna stop playing music, but I feel like I could. Which just translates into confident inspiration, which translates into higher levels of songwriting and showmanship. So watch out.
We owe so much thanks to so many people for coming out. I thought about just outing all of the people who said they were gonna come and didn't, but their were people that were more casual about it and didn't really have to come out, but there were people that I swore would be there but were not. Oh well, I'll tell you, I didn't miss a single one of them when I was on stage. I love every single person who was there at any given point.
On a side note, we lost a rock. We usually have three rocks that go into Trever's kick drum, we only went home with two. Those rocks are representative of the three members in PILES and we're not sure which one of us has been abducted yet but there is a reward for an undisclosed amount.
Check out the gigs page.
Love,
Chris

The Elegant Look of New
A little facelift every now and again never hurts, no? Biggest news is our show at the Middle East on January 3rd in 2005. Big it up for Ernesto from Shore Leave for helping us get on the bill.
Boyakasha.
If anyone feels so inspired to make flyers for this show, by all means do so. You'll find all of the bands and info that we know on the main page.
Recording with Farhad has been pushed back until February, so look for some new piles produced demos on the site soon.

PILES is taking a breather
yes, you heard it.
Piles is taking a little time off...yeah, the strains of the road, man...the road truley is fuckin rough (thanks for the warning, Jables).
currently there are a few different things going on in the world of PILES, up to and including that crafting of new songs, rehashing some oldies (but goodies), as well as some new computer music that you'll hardly believe is computer music at all...
also, trever has been playing bass in a new band called MALE blood, the coolest band to sound like 15 other bands since those 15 other bands...and chris has been having some closed door meeting and, dare i say jams, with night ralleys drummer Luke...no shit, huh? that would be some kick as shit to hear...all of it...
yeah, so, piles has a bit of new shit, but i think we are taking the rest of the year off from playing shows (unless we got a really sweet offer) to be able to concentrate on our recording session coming up with Farhad (from Night Ralley...yeah, so what if we're sleeping with them?) and getting our new and improved stage show ready for '05...gonna thrive and survive in '05.
yeah, so, thats all i got...and im not used to this computer shit anymore and i have a cramp from typing...
so enjoy and look for new recordings and possibly a new look for this site by December.

An Update
Well,
Piles is taking a little breather from playing shows at the moment. We've looked back on 2004 and smiled... we never thought we would have played so many shows with so many great bands from boston. We're hopefully going to record a new demo with Farhad from Night Rally (www.nightrally.com) sometime before the end of this year, but more hopefully by the end of this month.
We've also been working really hard on our live show. It seems that our biggest complaint is that our live show isn't very engaging, so we've been really working hard to overcome the two people who said that sarcastically. So maybe look for a secret super Piles show before the end of the year, but we've got some serious s h i t planned for January and February.
That's it for now...

Makeover
So I, Chris, decided give the webpage a makeover. I gave Trever fair warning and I hope you all hate it. I told myself I was gonna spend less time on it then I did. It's purpose is to mostly show you how much fun we had in Burlington and Brattleboro Vermont this past weekend with Clickers, Tristan da Cunha, Dial M and Night Rally. We didn't see much of Video Pigeon or Carrigan, but that will change on Saturday.
Thanks to all the bands again. We heart you.

review of 81 Linden St (an a little about Great Scott)
i believe i will start chronologically for the sake of consistency.
PILES III played at Greatt Scott in Allston but a week ago, and it was a mighty time.
as per usual, we started the night off with our expirmentally flavoured rock stylings, all of which was documented on film to be preserved forever. thios night at Great Scott also featured th official introdution of Mike Doherty into PILES, hence changing ther name of th band to PILES III.
we played one hell of a show and were all very tired by the end of it, but i was a great night of music, including the tiajuana hurricanes (fucking a!) and the Young Sexy AssAssins, one of my personal favourite bans i have seen in boston in a long while.
(pardon the abridged review, but it has been a week and 81 linden is fresh in my mind right now)
and onto 81 linden...
it was originally set up that we were gonnaplay with clickers, calumet heckla, and maybe another band, which soon changed that Clickers would not be playing, but rather 3 other bands (including the previously mentioned Heckla's). Then clickers decide they will play, making it a night of 6(!) bands.
so clickers went on first, and as per usual, they were fucking insane! i gotta say, if you havent heard them, you gotta investigate, because they are a really kick ass band from Boston, too. they tore through abut a half hour set, leaving enough time to pick up yr jaw that was somewhere on the floor.
up next was Calumet Heckla (sorry of i am not spelling that right, but, y'know...). This was this crazy 3 peice guitar bass drums trio who i had only heard of, and most recently that the has played with Kite Factory on the same day that we played at Great Scott's. Kite Factory spoke highly of them, so i could only imagine...and boy, were these guys (and Ann) fuckin awesome! i not exactly sure, but i think they only played 4 songs but all of the songs seemed to be about 10 minutes long, of this crazy post ock noise shit that was sooo fucking delightful...i could only think, as i was ot watching my truck that A Minor Forest was getting it on with Sonic Youth...yeah, that cool...and, i gotta say, all of them were cool as shit...
so, the fact that 6 bands wereplaying in a basement all in 1 night left little room for equipment, so we ended up having to leave all of our shit in the back of my truck until just bforwe wer played..whcih was supposed to be after Calumet...but thn some shit came up, and the2 touring bands were gonna play next...and then the fuckingVermont band decided that if they played last, everyone might leave, so they jumped on after the 2 tourin bands (sorry i forget all of these names)...but the point is, that left PILES III to headline...but mostly play last...
so, finally, around 12:30 am, PILES finally got to go on to an extremly loud (and fairly wasted) crowd of our truest fans. we opened with 20 mnute mile (by popular demand),then busting into Do me, to Only Monkeys...thna break, to switch up for One from Oregon, then showcasing our newest jam, kiosk intervention, into sumner is tied up at the footbridge, and finishing with submariner...but that apparantly wasnt enough for some fools...there was a never ending requst for Saur Kraut until we finally opted to play it, which ended up being the last song of the night...but the yells for that song didnt even end after we played it, so chris took matters into his ow hands and started the song again, which i followed along with for probably a little too long...
but then it was done.
at approximately 1:15 am the night of rock officially ended...at which point we got to see who actually came to see us, and i would just like to personally thank a few people for coming out, up to and including:
jeff and dana (kite factory), jordan and paul and kate, amanda and andy, alina and laura and erin, beth murphy, and last (that i can remeber) but certainly not least, Dave from www.Bakedbean.net and Victory at Sea. it was awesome of you all to come see us and we appriciae yr attendance...and sorry if i forgot anybody, as i did have a few drinks that evening and so on...
so, for now, PILES is planing on recording a bunch of songs for PILES, PILES III, blunt PILES, and so on...so watch out for that.

PILES studio experience (and more)
well, it all began back in December of '03 when PILES had finally come upon their set date to record their record. we had a lot of time avilable to us and we were rip-roaring-ready to do it.
then, a blizzard struck.
the night before we were set to record, the snow fell like it hadn't in years...un-feakin-believeable.
but we decided we would do it anyways. so we loaded all of our equipment into my truck and slowly trekked from east bridgewater to braintree. after all kinds of other delays, including the engineer being a hour or so late, we finally made it to the studio, which was covered in snow, at least knee deep, excluding the drifts.
so after shoveling the place out enough to had a path to unload my truck, we did just that, which was a brutal excersize in itself. once all of our stuff was in there, we realized that they already had a nice drum kit set up, so having brought mine was just a waste.
great.
we then also realized that we really only needed our guitars, because there was a slew of equipment right at our disposal. so we proceeded to set up, which was a wonderfully long, drawn out process, just to get everything to sound right. we then proceeded to lay out some of our tracks, but by this exhausting point in the day, which had essentially began at 8:00 am that morning and after all of the previously mentioned events, was finally around 4:30 pm...and we were tired...and it showed...mostly in me.
after all was said and done, wrapped up around 10:30 pm, we handed over $180 dollars with the intention of coming back at least 3 more times...we paid for something like 6 hours and we really got 10, but damned if we agreed...
it would work out that i would have to swing by at some other time to pick up the rough mix, during which time i met with the two dudes that owned the studio who told me that they like what they heard, but espescially the 'Angry German' song...to which i replied that he would be able to hear more soon...
...but we would never return.
here it is, July, and this is as far as the tracks will probably go. we had planned to even edit together the takes and make super versions that we would add vocals and/or bass to, but it was just to painfully slow a process for us to afford it...plus, we really weren't on our game after a blizzard...
i may edit them myself at the POTHOLE, but they will always sound just like that.
so hear they are, exactly as they appeared on the $180 PILES album, Against All Odds.
thanks for reading and check for more info on PILES 3.

UPDATES will happen soooooon
ok, i know its been a damn while since we've done an update, and im sure we lost a few of our usuals...well, i'll be hoping that after the new update comes that our web traffic will require an officer...and im sure i just lost thelast 2 of you with that terrible joke...meh
anywho, shit will happen, espescially now that the POTHOLE is open for business...new recordings will flow like wine, more pictures will follow, and so on...
also, i would like to announce that PILES III have officially began our newest endevour, SUITED MUTE Records...it will essentially just be something to put on the cds tha we release, but give it time.
also, check the message bored for a review of what we did on sundaynight (#5 @ the Midway).
and, would just like to let it be known that the fucking PILES.8m.com will get its due, but jeff king made a web site that is literally a pain in the ass to update, given that it seems to take me hours to do a little bit...and after siting for so long...well, you know...so, as my time free's up and my access to media becomes available, it'll (finally) get updaed.
on, that note...

22 Wadsworth BASEMENT review
well well well...2 shows, 2 basements, 1 town, 1 week...unbelieveable.
last night was a hell of a show. There was a whole lot to the whole evening, highlights including the first time the HISLOP brothers III have all played at he same venue on the same night, Kite Factory's Allston debut, and the crazy hissing tanker train in ryans backyard. there also were a few key players in the boston music scene, including Dave from MAX CHERRY, Mike from The Clickers, and someone who i know is in some band, but i have never met him. probably about 30-40 people came and left by the end of the night, most of whom saw PILES...but lets start at he begining:
first of all, i had to step out to the store for a minute and ended up missing my personal fav HELP! button songs (as they opened the evening), including can you handle the flannel panel sandal scandal, you dont see things like that in minnesota, and user friendly...what a drag...i missed paul playing guitar and singing and jordan playing drums (my personal favourite vesion of HELP! button)...anywho, what i saw fucking ruled...esp i dont give a shit what type of shoes you wear (i think its called)...HELP! buttons vocal set up must just be talked about too...they have their mics set up on the front of the stage, lined up parallel (sp?)so that you see one faceing the left and the other facing the right, but so that when they sing, they are right up in each others faces...it is very impactual on the performance...it fucking rules...
then came kite factory...and boy did theese pucks bring it...they were very, VERY fucking ON! they did all of the songs i could want to hear, and even 2 songs that i didnt want to hear...but was glad i heard them once they were done...i really really fucking always love He was FUCKED to death when we go there every time i hear it, and even though its was sans-vocal delay, i still LOOOOOVED 4:00 train to Wellington...dana handled himself very well through out both bands, espescially bringing it with headbutts and Teethmarks...jeff king is untouchable on the drums and jon hislop is a clever ass guitar player, playing (and owning) the guitar with a certain charm and charisma unseen in either of the other HISLOP brothers...and this is a band of folks who are responsible and exclusively sober...incredible.
and then there were 3...PILES III...basement PILES III. and these gentlemen we fucking drunk. all of them. espescially trever...but especially mike...and partially chris (on disuaded by the fact that he was tom green hislop, rocking the suit with the gym sneakers). It was a hell of a performance from PILES on this particular night, where as they hadnt played together since the previous rendevous in Allston with help button, and did i mention that they were, well, i be bold and say: hammered. Anywho, they played a blistering A Grumpy German is a Sour Kraut, and then 20 Minute Mile was still good, but it seemed to go down hill from there...then was some old bass and drums song...which was fine...then they hopped right into One from Oregon, which was.......well, its a fucking weird song...kind of loose, but still tight...then the set continued as it has for the past month or so, with the whole evenings pinacle being the perfomance of SUBMARINER, which seems to be quite a few peoples favourite PILES song...esp with the bass guy...then they switched it up, but not chris and mike...this time trever and Chris switched guitar and drums...they them proceed to tear up (very drunkenly) Seven Nation Army, then going right into Heavy Metal Rock N' Roll, which would have probably been a better song had there been a legitimate Public Address system (the only problem for EVERY Single band this night), and then...then....paul and jordan from HELP! button came up on stage and joined trever for a drum machine backed rendition of Booty Duty...it was something else...probably not the best way to end the night...if you dont know PILES...but, then, what were you doing there last night if you didnt know PILES?
all in all, i would give the music for the night a 10 out of 10, the performances (collectively) 8.4 out of 10, and the atmosphere a solid 11. ryan, great show, bands that played, great show, every one that was there, you know how it was.

Piles Review
The Secret Musical Schemes of a Band Called PILES, Exposed In J.P. April 13,
The Midway Cafe
By Matt Parish
A Tuesday night at the Midway in Jamaica Plain will often feel more like being
out in the basement of your friend's parents' house, and this
night with Piles on stage isn't really an exception. Stuffed deer head
on the wall? Check. Girlfriend and her mom? Check (mom's birthday-bonus). Sitting in a chair right in front of the band?
Check.
But Piles is rocking out like they're somewhere thoroughly serious-
possibly a calculus exam or an astrophysics lab. The two members-
guitarist Chris Hislop and drummer Trever Smith have written some of the
tightest and most aggressive math-rock in town and played it tonight like it was
second nature, connected by an invisible brain tube.
The drums were set up backwards at the front of the stage so the star of the
show was Trever's back, kind of. And he's a good drummer's
back to have in front of the stage-he doesn't hesitate to whip
hands around in overly dramatic sweeps and swagger in jeans, jean jacket and
black shirt (Canadian tuxes are the uniform tonight, at least for the first
song) as he basically pounds the drums like cannons. These drums are the heart
of this band. They're big and thick and deep and just sound like monster
thunder claps-- this is like Dale Crover from the Melvins territory. Very
commanding.
The middle of the set brings up a guest bassist to beef things up for a little
while, centering on a slick spy song that seems to limp every few beats on
purpose, which is generally the effect of a band doing music like this well.
Almost every change they've written seems like a mistake, except that
eventually (for some faster than others), it's evident that it's
all planned out, that everyone's hitting all the trips and stumbles
together like some kind of You've-been-fooled-and-there's-really-a-hidden-plot-behind-all-this-madness. In fact, you might even say
this music is a conspiracy aimed at the confusion of everyone in this little bar
tonight.
The music shoots back and forth through time signatures that might as well have
been planned out with a game of Kerplunk. Hislop dances through dissonant
chords and asymmetrical melodies like some poor robot following a course plotted
by a cat walking across the computer keyboard. Piles have two dynamics-insanely loud and medium, and there's not a lot of in-between or
transitional moments. The thrill with this band is similar to that you might
get from watching jugglers. Yes, jugglers, like at the circus. We may belittle
juggling, but we're all secretly seriously frightened that those people
are going to drop something if they keep adding objects into this crazy airborne
web! If the bowling pin hits the ground, you're convinced that it might
as well be about to trigger a nuclear war-- it's that sensitive an issue
with you as an audience member. Well, Piles keep adding things-extra
beats, new phrases in random places, entire songs that seem hidden inside other
songs- and never drop a thing.

Basement Piles review
well, it happened. the long awaited all ages show at 81 Linden St. kicked ass, let me tell you. chances are though, you saw for yourself. there were a bunch of new faces.. and lots of familiar ones as well. the turnout was awesome!! that basement was at full capacity. we had people right up in our faces, people standing in the dark, just filling every available spot. there were people on the stairs trying to get a peek around the furnace.
i should know..that's the only place i could find to watch help!button.
so, we piles III are psyched to have been able to play for the ages, both young and old(er). almost as psyched as we are to play again!! next saturday, courtesy of our good buddy ryan...but wait there's more!!! how about the saturday after that?! graduation party style.. Soo psyched!!!
thanks to all who came out last night, thanks to Mike for having us, and thanks to Nick my designated driver for getting lost driving me home last night.
..so untl next time.

www.PILES.8m.com has been worked on and updated TODAY!!!
Pretty exciting to see that this kooky little website (www.piles.8m.com) has had some attention paid to it. It is a site wonderfully designed by jeff king. you may remeber him from such websites as www.kitefactory.8k.com and so on.
anywho, it is really cool that this site is happening (and looking good) so that we (PILES and PILES III) can have a place other than zebox to vent and shamelessly promote our asses.
so, now that i have become the new assistant to the Webmaster, you oughtta see more updates. expect more cool shit that you were fine with out, but will be grateful you have...

Number 2 at last!
I dont know if anyone ever explores the website that hosts this PILES website, but it is a music website. There are catagories that divide all of the music. When we signed up for this site we labeled ourselves as progressive rock. For the longest time number one and number two in the prog rock section were the same band under two different names. But by the power of PILES we drew our mighty prog-sword and sliced them in twain!
Anywho, in actual news we have another gig coming up on May 9th (Mother's Day) at O'Brien's in Allston. We will be playing with...(sigh) Vaguely Star Shaped... and Simple Chimp. Okay...
Also check out subterraboston.com after May first for a review for our show on FourTwentyOhFour.

PILES 4/20 midway gig review and update
ok, well, here we go:
PILES played what will probably be their last show for a while...
We played our 3rd straight show in a row at the Midway Cafe this past tuesday (4-20-2004) and, yes, it was yet another triumphant feather in our cap as a live band, but after a few band meetings, we have decided that the live thing is not our bag right now.
we have instead decided to dedicate our time and energy to recording our songs that have been around for a little while..y'know, a sort of excorsism (sp?) of sorts...
there are a few factors which have all just added up to why PILES doesnt want to play for a while...but we will probably play again sometime soon(er than later)...some of said factors include being blown off countless times by certain friends of ours and most importantly, my, drum PILE's wounded knuckle.
now, i hear you asking yrself: well, how the fuck is he supposed to play drums on recordings if he cant play them live? my answer: dont worry about it...
if you have any problems with PILES or their decisions, please feel free to air yr thoughts on our message bored...we certainloy have no problem with it.
i cant give away too much more of what PILES is doing right now, but i can tell you this: we still dont have a name for the studio in which we are going to record our record, so, any assistance in that department would be great...
on that note, until the next 18+/all ages show, maintain yr interest in PILES.
i know i do.

Full Length Piles Files
For our devoted fans, or for people who feel they have just too much damn memory on their computer; submitted for your approval by the Piles Society we bring you Only Monkeys and Sourkraut!
These are -euge- Piles Files so be patient. Its totally worth it to see Trever spraying his drum kit with blood from his magical knuckle. In normal Piles style, we mess up in Sourkraut, but I hear it's pretty cool when we come back into it. Oh, and the audio-e-o is really bad too.
A taste of what's to come on 4/20/004. Seriously come to that show. Expect a call tomorrow.
Love
Chris

www.PILES.8m.com is HERE!!!
although it is still under blasts of construction, piles.8m.com has returned with avengence.
thanks to our web-master, Jeff King, drummer in the extraordinary rock trio KITE factory, piles has a website...the difference, is that this time it is not only a)a really cool to look at web page and b)it is a really cool to look at web page.
the site needs to still recieve a lot of contributions from members of PILES, but it is otherwise a fucking sweet site.
so, all you have to do to access it is to click on the webpage tab on the top of this page (or any of them, for that matter) and it'll bring you straight there.
gather yr thoughts and give us/our webmaster feedback.
i know its a lot to take in.

www.piles.8m.com coming soon
yes, the ghetto one page website that you have all come to love, piles.8m.com, will be recieving a complte make over...
it actually has, but has yet to be touched up and uploaded by great friend and opponent of PILES, kite Factory drummer Jeff King.
to get some sort of an idea of what the new PILES site is NOT gonna look like, go to www.kitefactory.8k.com.
anywho, PILES also has another gig coming up with Cookie Punch and (hopefully) Noran Rad!!! Midway cafe is gonna rule round 2, even though stupid Pinback is playing the same night...oops, did i say that? screw that show, come see PILES instead...its on April 13th...a tuesday...
today also comemorates the 10 year anniversary of Kurt Cobains death...there really isnt a whole lot to be said that hasnt already been beat to death over the past 10 years...it'll be sad when we're here about elliott smith.
mortality is a fucked up thing...

PILES PRACTICE SPACE
so, here is the deal, PILES officially has a practice space...
we are now convieniently (for chris) located right down on Dot Ave. in Dorchester.
i forget what the place is called, and i hope that guitar PILE will correct me, but i think it is something like the Sound Museum or Sound Complex or some shit like that.
anywho, original PILES (trever, chris and jordan) went and examined the place last night and aside from the fact that the first month will be an insane finanacial burden, so, we have now officially shifted our fund raising campaign from laura needing more video space with which to film PILES to the PILES-needs-to-pay-for-their-insanely-cool-but-insanely-expensive-so-they-need-some-money-to-make-it-happen fund...
now, i know that is a mouthful to read, and it will be disreguarded by most, so that is why we have already figured out otherways to make shit happen...
that, however, is not to discourage anyone who would want to contribute, though...
anywho, this space is awesome, we will have 24 hour access, and it wil be set up as the follow up to Manville 2.0, as yet untitled.
see the message board for the more info about naming it.
thank for reading what we write.

FUND-RAIZER
In our ongoning pursuit to keep you updated with every breath piles takes, we the piles bring...
A WHOLE MINUTE OF NEW VIDEO!!
But unfortunately, this one minute clip of history leaves the most bittersweet stain on your retina due to the lack of memory space on Laura Cutone's digital camera.
We the Piles request you, our loving faithful, to dig through your couches and beg on the street to raise money for -Laura's Cause.-
This is will only help you enjoy piles ( or at least do me a favour ) for more than a mere sixty-four seconds.
Thank you.

We brought it.
Well, I'd like to think that we brought it last night and set the tone for one of the best shows ever. I swear to GOD if I hear another person say that we have a lot of energy or are high energy... i'll probably say thank you like I did a hundred times last night. Seriously, Max Cherry killed me dead, and Dusky Silo brought me back to life, and I was not 100% there for the Ticks, but they were certainly very nice.
Rumour has it that Dusky Silo has a Tuesday residency at the Midway in April and that Piles is a part of at least two of them (Mike...)
Awesome.

FUCK the FCC
i am so sick about this FCC bullshit...i need a forum to vent, and thats why i signed up for this zebox site. folks, you must realize that our rights are being violated...maybe not violated, but at least challenged. the FCC is looking to enforce fines of a half million dollars for saying offensive things...do you realize that we may not be safe to have discussions on our cell phones or via email, as our fucking government has become so paraniod that people dont like them. we are living in a fucked up day and age and i dont know whats coming next...i heard that they are looking to possibly transfer all of the radio over to digital to clear up the air waves and then re sell the air waves to try and make a shitload more money from it...they already did this a bunch of fucking years ago...this Bush administration has me personally up in arms...not only W himself, but colin powell, his freaking jerk ass of a son (head of the FCC...a job which was handed to him, not earned), and, well, you know what, i am gonna just probably keep going and going...what mostly offends me is that all this shit is happening because of the MUTHERFUCKING superbowl halftime show...and you know what, i will admit that i am a fan of J. Timberlake, HOWEVER, i belive that it should be he and I'm-Sorry-Ms-(janet)Jackson held accountable, not fucking Howard Stern or the Music Television Network...
well, all i have to say (in closing) is that i have never been so intereted in a particular election as i am this one coming up and i have never been so ashamed of my President as i am.
we must take the power back from George W. Bush and we must restore the order and the rights that are being torn away from us all.
i urge as many as are possible to investigate these matters as i have given a very swear filled perspective of it all and please, please, just fucking vote.
rock the vote.
fuck tha man.
enter Mccarthyism.
goodbye dubyah.
and dont you EVER sign our fucking message board again.

NEW PILES MP3Z FOR Y'ALLZ!!!
I warned you all that this day would come...and here it is. PILES officially has new & different mp3s up on this zebox site. The first seven songs are the Farewell Manville 2.0 songs. There are descriptions of the trax underneath them, but for the sake of posterity, it all started with Chris on guitar, trever on the drums, and mike Doherty on the bass. after a lil bit, mike kept playing bass and chris and trever switched instruments. then mike got sick of the bass and trever got sick of the guitar, so chris grabbed the bass, trever his drums, and mike grabbed chris's trusty Vacarro. and that would be how Manville Studio's died...with mike playing guitar, chris on bass, and trever fighting his drums.
The next batch of songs are featured on the 5 songs for 5 bucks cd that PILES tries to sell to people, but we can guarantee that PILES has given away plenty more than we have sold, so why not give them away here. We do plan on geting some trax up on the Zebox store soon, but we just havent decidied which trax are appropriate to try and sell.
and, yes, we do in fact have 2 video clips up on the web page, too, so, check it all out...its all new and all fresh, baby!
until the midway...

PILES got screwed at the Choppin Block
yes, so the drama continues with PILES and their attempts to play music in front of people. PILES did NOT headline, in fact, the gal that set up the show never confirmed it, so PILES ended up playing waaaay earlier than expected, with a minimal turnout. After the initial confusion of the whole intro to the evening, PILES was far from on their game, although a handful of people were impressed with their energy...whatever that means.
anywho, PILES did fuck up at least once per song (of which 5 were played)...the fun part about that is that now on this website, there is a video clip from 20 Minute MILE were you get to see the experience (filmed by laura again!!!!)
so, in short, PILES still rules and will most definitly have a different experience at the MIDWAY caFe...mostly because this one has been confirmed.
still trying for March 19, a possible all ages show for PILES, so we'll keep you posted.
until then...

Cabaret Theater Basement PILES review
So let me first start off by saying Wow! Thanks to everyone that showed up last night!!! that was really kick ass!! the whole night was pretty screwy as far as it all goes, but it seemed like PILES pulled off a pretty good show. Despite the 4th of 5 bands playing for-fucking-ever and the almost offensive number of technical difficulties, PILES did cram a lot into their 28 minute set. The set solely consisted of: only monkeys feel the light touch of GOD, Do Me (a favour), Deeper Sleeper Hold, 20 minute mile, and finally A Grumpy German is a Saur Kraut. it was an epic show that featured amp malfunction, broken drumsticks, bloody thumbs, broken strings, sound board techs that we complete bitches, and no time for any of PILES patented band/auduence banter...meh, there's always the Choppin Block...sorry to those of you who arent 21...
i would also like to send a lil shout out to Dusky Silo...you guys fuckin Rocked!!!! see you at T'T's!
oh, and ryan martin did film the show with two different cameras, so that will be partially available at some point...apparently, 20 minute mile was his favourite number of the evening, so you hope to expect to see that on the PILES documentary...
sooooo, unless i can think of anything else to add to this, until the choppin block...

PILES is LIVE music; also, LPMM2; more pics
ok, folks, so, i know its been effectively addressed, however, i want to document it one mo'gin: PILES is going to a live rock band very, very soon!! this is very exciting news because we have paid our due for 7 odd years and now its about time to play some shows that are not either our high schools B.O.T.B. (battle of the bastards) or at the Pembroke Town Green...onto BOSTON!!! yeah, so, as of today, we have 2 shows lined up and i highly suggest that everyone who is anyone attend, as they will undoubtedly be the most talked about spectacals of the year, right behind justin and janet...and i mean right behind...point is, we're wicked psyched and we would like as many folks as are available to come and visit us and bear witness...
also, Local People Making Music II will be coming to pass soon, except we need to still get 2 bands to record their songs, including PILES. so, if Paradoner wants in, they are gonna have to make it happen soon.
New PILES songs will be debuted on this website soon, including a really crazy synthesizer-drums-baritone-and three different people rant/screaming song that was done by super PILES, featuring members of kite FACTORY...fucking awesome stuff...yeah, so, be on the look out for Do ME (a favour) and other songs that remain untitled to hit the internet near you, soon...
and to finish the rant about LPMM2, once all of the mastering is done (and as far as i know, the kite factory songs are done), the cover art is the next step and then we will get the disc pressed so as to have real cds, instead of compact disc-recordables.
also, there are new (and one improved) pictures now, so, look at those if you need that fix...i know i did.
So, patience, dear friends, and until then....

Well, as it is, there are a ton of new pictures...actually, only 14, because thats all that we're aloud to put up on here, and until we have a proper website, that'll have to do...i hope you saved all the other crap-ass pictures because those were the first and last time you'll ever see them again! anywho, soon, very soon indeed there will be new songs up, so you better hurry and download all those exclusive trax, because once they're gone, they're gone, baby! ok, well, check back for more tales of the misadventures of PILES.

PILES say Happy Holidays!!!
Howdy, Y'all! As i type this, it is Christmas Eve Day and im sure that everyone is getting in the holiday spirits...but whats gonna be lacking underneath yr tree this year??? yeah, you guessed it: PILES. There wasnt really enough time to flood the industry with our music before the holidays because we have lives too...but anywho, i just want to set out a sort of time limit on the mp3z available on this site for everyone...they will probably only be around until the end of '003, so you had better scarf them up whilst they are still there...uhm, also, i will be adding more/different pictures of us as soon as they become physically available to me, including a batch from an epic bender that PILES embarked on, as well as some celebrity photo's featuring PILES and friends...i dont know what more to say about Local People Making Music II, but i can tell you this, begin bracing yrselfs for this new, awe inspiring, jaw dropping new phase of PILES that will be unleashed in a city near you early into '004. Unitl then...

SHITLOAD OF NEW MUSIC (and some different pictures) of PILES
I have spent a couple of hours (consecutively) mixing and mastering a bunch of songs to upload onto this wonderful new website to promote PILES. I am not sure what the actual number of songs is, but i believe it to be somewhere around 15. Some of these jams range from classics to expiriments, all of them solid gold, though. It would be in yr best interest to listen to as much of this music as you have time for, and even stuff you dont have time for. Aslo, i have changed up most of the pictures. Still trying, however, to figure out how to change the background image. Meh.

PILES is constantly recording new music
PILES has been spending ridiculous time in the studio lately. Almost every week they are recording jams, practices, full sets and new songs at Manville Studios in East Bridgewater, MA. All of the sessions are run by the Reverend, however, both members of the band have been contributing to the recording process more and more in recent weeks. they have been working on songs such as A Grumpy German is a Sour Kraut and Kiosk Intervention. There are many other songs that they have been writting and such, however this is top secret information that wont be divuldged until the time is right. Until then, rock on and rock out with yr cock out.

Recent Updates
its been a long time coming, and we have certainly had our ups AND downs, leaving this site completely by the way-side, but now that we have nothing but time, i think you'll be noticing that there is gonna be a lot of gussying up of things such as web-sites, personal spaces, and historical inaccuracies.
since the last time any of us gave a fuck about this site (or even really each other), the following has taken place:
we have put out our long over due ep we recorded with kevin micka
chris and alina moved to chicago
trever moved to south boston
mike quit the band and rejoined on a purely temporary basis
we covered NEVERmind (terribly) with that drunk motherfuck from BAKULA...
we have vowed to never die, even if it means we are waaaaaaaaay out of style
etc.
so, really, it has been a big and busy few years for us. we accomplished a lot (biggest one was playing with Helms [twice!] and getting a killer poster made to celebrate it) and we flaunted our power and hold over the boston music world...
onto the next one.
i would thank you for caring, but its not really up to you, now is it...?

in other news, the Japanese Release of said album is currently being mastered and the album artwork is being furiously prepared, so sooner than later that shit will be on yr computer, in your collection and, most importantly, in yr heart and mind.
